\n\nEver since MySpace (whoa throwback), Audrey Kitching has been a style icon for me. Her edgy style, crazy colored hair and quirkiness are an inspiration to be different and not care what others think. I’m also an avid lover of birds and wildlife, so when we talked about her collection and what she wanted… it was kind of a match made in heaven. Audrey is such a down to Earth person, making this collab even greater. Her answers to these Q+A questions say it all.-Julia\nYou can shop Audrey’s collection, Lady of the Birds, here.\n1. What’s the story behind your magical shop, Crystal Cactus?\nWell, the name confuses everyone, but I used to collect vintage teacups and plant cacti in them, then cover the dirt in crystals. I had so many people ask to buy them I started to sell them. Long story short, they did NOT ship well as you can imagine. I kept the name and turned it into a metaphysical magic crystal shop. It’s kinda my dream job next to making weird art.\n2. How did you get into modeling?\nIt was one of those strange things that kinda just happened. I used to do it for artistic purposes when I was younger- all my friends went to art and film schools and always needed a model to shoot. I was perfectly down with being painted blue and doing whatever was needed. I used to post the photos on online in my public teenage diary rant columns and it all kinda went viral. I was with a bunch of agencies throughout the years. I did all kinda of campaigns, look-books, editorials… I have been in the industry for a long time. I feel like I have seen it all.\n3. What’s your spirit animal?\nI’m the Lady of the Birds. I really love them, all kinds. Did you know each bird has a message\/spiritual meaning? When you see one during a confusing time they are bringing you messages – you just have to pay attention. I have worked with them my whole life. My grandmother was obsessed and so is my mother. I grew up being surrounded by birds.\n4. Your photo streams seem to be full of butterflies and birds. (It’s also what your Tattify collaboration is made of!) What’s your obsession with these fluttery creatures?\nI think I just love the symbolism and how free they are. Our society is so out of touch with what matters. I would surround myself with lakes, trees, butterflies and birds over anywhere human populated any day of the week. They are beautiful reminders of what really matters in life.\n5. Who or what inspires you?\nLife, pain, joy, beauty, everything. I feel like I have lived more in 30 years than most people do in 5 incarnations. I have seen and experienced a lot and that is putting it lightly. I draw my inspirations from my own personal experiences. I’m hellbent on building the life I want to live. I don’t read magazines, listen to the radio, watch TV, read gossip or celebrity anything. It keeps everything real. I’m only influenced by what I choose to surround myself with.\n6. Pick one: Glitter, confetti or stardust.\nGLITTER with a close second to stardust, but only because glitter is more accessible.\n7. What’s your favorite kind of flower?\nOh… I can’t just pick one! Roses, lilies, orchids, wild flowers, daisies, hydrangeas, peonies…\n8. What trend are you excited for in 2016?\nEverything that isn’t trending. I’m looking forward to gluing stars to my face, swimming in glitter, wearing ribbon anywhere I can tie it and counting lady bugs.\n9. Any words of advice for someone looking to dive into the world of modeling, designing and blogging?\nIf I’m being completely honest, I work IN the industry but I certainly am no longer PART of the industry. Over the past 10 years I have been doing everything from modeling professionally to being signed with talent agencies and for a long while I was a Pop Culture writer and Style Editor… After living that life and seeing both sides of it, I prefer to do things my own way these days. My advice is don’t get sucked into the smoke and mirrors. The industry is about money and what they can convince people is cool. It’s not about art or talent. Find a way to be yourself and work within the industry – don’t strive to be part of the industry.\n10. How has the response been to your tattoo line?! Do you have a favorite piece from the collection?\nAll my friends are obsessed, we wear them around the Crystal Cactus Studio! I have a soft spot for the double birds.\n11. You have had SO many hair colors. Each one equally as awesome! Out of all those rad styles which has been your absolute favorite?\nIt’s kinda wild, right? I have been various shades of pink now for well over 10 years. I would have to say my current color… it fades to white peachy blond which is more low maintenance then any of the other shades. It’s kinda like a fairy floss pink.
